Rhodes is the largest island of the Dodecanese of Greece. In 1309 the island was sold to the order of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem. During the stay of the Knights in Rhodes, the fortifications were expanded, modernized and continuously strengthened. A hospital, a palace, several churches were some of the many public buildings that were erected at this time. These buildings are remarkable examples of Gothic and Renaissance architecture. Today, it is a vibrant part of the modern city where commercial, touristic and recreational activities are developed while it also includes residential areas. In 1988, the old town of Rhodes was declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO.
My stay on the island was 25 days and with the precious help of Yiannis Efthymiou I explored the uniqueness of this place. Through this route I tried to immortalize the architecture, the natural beauty, the human moments and all that makes you to want to be in such a special place. Rhodes is a magical island with history and natural beauty. The human hospitality, the beaches and the landscapes will be unforgettable for me!
